WELLINGTON
Since the departure of the P.N.Z. Company's steamer ' Mattura' with the English mails of the 7th September, the markets have been quiet, and transactions have been confined to limited trade parcels. The markets at present are well supplied with goods, and during the last month the cargoes of the 'Asterope' and 'John Bunyan,' from London, valued at about £200,000, have come to hand. The bonded stock exhibits very little decre»se, and, the Australian advices of shipments to date being more than ordinarily he*yy, the general opinion it thab our markets will remain fully ■tocked for several months to come, so that importations at present will hardly bear a margin. Station supplies will be required for th«s next two or three months, which will tend to clear off the surplus stock on hand. Large parcels of goods have changed hands during the past month at figures far below remunerative prices. The wool season having just commenced, it is hardly possible to give any quotations of the market at present, as none of the new clip yet offered can be considered a fair test. Monetary matters continue as before ; discount as per last quotation, 8 per cent. Exchange on London for 60 days : Bank paper at 1J per cent. — New Zealand Times, October 7.
