Arrivals.—September 22, Salamander (s.b.), Clarke, from London. September 23, John Temperley, ship, Tucker, from London. September 24, Hebe, brig, 176, Cbarleswortb, from Mercury Bay, New Zealand, -via Sydney, with timber. Wbeck op the Swordfish. —A telegraph from Melbourne to Mr. O'Doud, owner of the above-named ▼easel, reports her loss at Circular Head, but gives no particulars. The wreck had been sold for £570, and was insured in the following offices: —Victoria for £1,000, Metcalfe's for £500, and in the General for £500. The SworJnsh was a fine colonial-built vessel, and about t months old. The ship John Temperley, Captain Tucker, arrived at Melbourne from London, with 400 immigrants, on the 23rd ultimo. The s.s. Salamander, Captain Clarke, has arrived at Melbourne from London after a rapid passage linder canvas. Wreck of this Brig Jane at Wabbnambool. — During a very heavy gale from the south-west blowing at Warrnambool, on Friday week, the brig Jane, Captain Trussell, which had visited the bay to take in potatoes for Sydney, parted both her cablps, and drifted ashore. The crew were taken off the vessel by the harbourmaster, Captain Helpman. Tbe boat, however, before she reached the landing-place^ was struck by a fearful sea, and immediately capsized, and all her crew were left struggling for their lives. Fortunately there was plenty of help at hand, and they were speedily, rescued, with tne exception of one poor fellow named Manvill Vital, who sank "Captain Helpman, harbourmaster, was in the boat when it capsized, and had a very narrow escape. The vessel, it is expected, will prore a total wreck. The brig was owned by Messrs Samuel Eouse and Co., and was insured in the Southern Insnrance Company. —Argils, September 15.
