The import market shows signs of improvement, and the week has opened with a fair inquiry for trade parcels of goods. Candles to arrive are quoted at •bout a farthing higher. Holders of Martell's an d Hennessy's brandies are also looking for higher rates The market is quite bare of kerosine la first hands, and 2s 9d is nornr obtainable for parcels. American advices do not, however, warrant anticipation of any mateiJal advance ; the 'Sarah M'Gilvray' and 4 Portland' for Melbourne, ' Silas Fish ' and 'Lubra' for Sydney, and ' Montana' for New Zealand, are reported as having sailed with 52,000 casei on board. These vessels also bring 9,000 packages tobacco. A.t latest date the 'Agra,' •Kulla,"E.Bustced,'and 'E. and J. Berteau' were loading for Australia. Brer Istuffs are quiet hut firmer, owing H the large orders to be executed for England as soon as tonnage '«« available. The * Martha Birnie' has been chattered here to proceed to Adelaide, and load a full cargo there for London, at 55s per ton. Teas are declining. Advices received from Melbourne say that nine tea ships had left China foi Australia prior to jhbe mail's departure. u^]<i^ a vf rama rice look for higher rates in consequence of no vessel having left Calcutta for Australia during July, and the new crop havmg opened at a h'gh rate. Table sorts were quoted at Calcutta on August Bth at Rs. 3-14 to 4 ; sifted table at Us. 4-8. The stock on hand here is very limited, and worth £27 10s to £28 for small parcels. Messrs* Bradley, Newton, and Lamb held to-day, at Lamb's Bond, an important sale of tobacco, and disposed of about one hundred packages of negrohead, damaged and in defective condition, at prices ranging from 2Jd to Is per lb. net cash ; and a parcel of oavendish tens at 13d. The same firm announce for to-morrow (Tuesday,) a sale of tea, oilmen's stores, &c. Messrs. Stubbs and Co. sold, at their rooms *o-day, the schooner ' Isle of Thanet for £370 ; also, the wreck of the • Matador' for £41, and the * Bright Planet' at £10.— Sydney Morning Herald, Sept. 17.
