RUSSELL. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

July 29. I just send a line to let you know that there has been no more fighting since my last. On Monday last, Mr. Williams, R.M., his brother?, and a number of influential settlers in the neighbourhood, visited the two camps of the belligerents ; and, although I do not think they have yet secured peace, their efforts have prevented fighting hitherto. Our own R. M. here — Mr. Bars to vr — has, by his exertions, prevented the natives of his district from going, as they intended, to the scene of strife, and I am sure if indefatigable efforts can prevent fighting there will be none. The funeral of Archdeacon Williams was very numerously attended by both races, and would have been even more so, but for the state of the roads. WiKateni's party were afraid to go,as they suspected an ambush on Piripi's part. lam sorry to s&y that death has been busy among our little community here, three deaths having occurred in four days among us.
