WADE. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

July 26. Some weeks since, several letters appeared in the columns of your paper relative to the Advantages to be derived from reunions of th* youthful portion of our country population; from their occasionally meeting and wiling away the evening hour in the festive dance : these letters were written in favour of the periodical parties held in the Town Hall of Otahuhu. To rival that more favoured locality, we, of the long-neglected Wade, have used much exertion in starting a building fund for a Town Hall. The site selected and fixed on in the first instance was, after some dispute at a subsequent meeting of settlers, objected to, because it wa3 situated in the township equidistant from the two hotels. The objecting party stated that it was most unfit to have a Town Hall in the vicinity of two pot-houses, where drunken scenes and quarrels might prevail. In order, however, to meet the desires and expectations of the votaries of Terpsichore, this said opponent offered his barn as a fit and proper place for weekly reunions and dances, some two miles removed from the pothouqes of the Wade. We regret, however, to record that a most unseemly fracas occurred in the barn on Wednesday last, when two young men quarrelled and met in pugilistic encounter. It is more painful still for us to record that the pugilists were allowed to fight, encouraged in their brutal display by the owner of the place, who backed one of the combatants. We have only to add that we trust this short notice of so disgraceful a scene wiU prevent its recurrence.
