RAGLAN. (FROM A CORRESPONDENT.) April 26.

Tax Queen's Maoris are very busy in driving their horses and cattle from Kawhia to Otea, having been compelled to leave their houses and cultivations behind them. Why ?— Because they are British subjects, and friends of tht pakeha. In this case there is no aggression — no land dispute — but simply the Hauhaus claim possession of the country ; and they are determined to fight until they recover the Waikatoj They consider -we are at war with them, and that they are justified in attacking us without warning. There is no peace on their side. The first lot of refugees arrived at Raglan this morning, driving a few pigs. I believe the main body is at Otea. They stated the so-called Twelve Apostles were at Kawhia, inciting the rebels. At one time about fifty Hauhaua, armed with guns, were about to fire upon the friendlies, when one of the chiefs prevented them, as the time had not arrived. Strange to say, some of the parties who were constantly writing, saying there was "no danger," are now houseless and homeless ten miles from Kawhia. I would remark we have not four hours' supply of ammunition in the district.
