POLICE COURT.— Friday.

[Before J, H. Horne, Esq., J P., and H. F. Porter, Esq , J.P.] Their Worships took their seats at ten minutes before eleven o'clook. DRUNKENNESS. Patrick Scaly, James West, William Short, Thomas King, Archibald Bell, and Eliza York were punished for drunkenness. LA.EC EN Y. James Sweeney was charged with having stolen an overcoat from a boat in Auckland harbour. Joshua Occleston, farmer, Hobsonville, deposed that in June last a mohair overcoat, belonging to him, was stolen out of a boat at the Queen-street wharf. He saw the coat on Thursday last, when it was claimed by a man now in Court. (Coat identified.) Daniel Townsend deposed that he was a dealer residing in Chancery-street. About the latter end of June, or beginning of July, prisoner came into his place, and asked if he would buy a coat. Witness bought the coat. (Identified.) Prisoner was found guilty and sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labour. Frank Douglas and Frederick Mason, two boys of about eight years of age, were charged with stealing some pots and kettles. Both boys pleaded guilty. Mr. Commissioner Naughton said that he was afraid that to send the children to the Mount Eden Stockade would not improve their morals. Mr. Cunningham, of the City Mission, who was now in Court, was willing to take charge of the boys if the parents promised not to take them away from the school for some time. The parents of the children having made this promise, the boys were handed over to Mr. Cunningham's oharge. This conoluded the business.
