GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
There lias been nothing disposed of in Wellington sinae last mail: The great debate of the session was to come off on the 24th and following days, on Mr. Whitaker's resolutions. All other business has been suspended. The proposal to subsidise the "Wellington papers to report the debates at £1,500 a-year was most properly rejected by a large majority. The reports are of the most meagre and unsatisfactory description. The Otago members are divided. Of these, ten are with Auckland. The Wellington members may be secured by large concessions, but as yet the parties interested hare not seen their way to agree to the terms. We believe the Panama terminus and seat of Government are the two precious morsels in the eyes of Wellington members. Of course there are other considerations besides these, but they are the chief.
