MARKET FOR AUCKLAND.
The following is a. copy of a letter, containing a proposal for erecting a Market-house in Mr. Hardington's yard, Auckland, which, was laid before the Provincial Council yesterday :—: — "Auckland, January 31, 1866. "Sir, — I have the honour to forward to your Honor a plan for the establishment of a public market in my yard, between Queen-street and High-street, including also a proposal for opening out High-street into Victoria-street at once, instead of at the end of a, period of four years, in accordance with the present arrangement. " Some time ago, I believe a sum of £7,000 was appropriated by the Provincial Council for the purpose of erecting a Market-house on the market reserve. No building has been yet erected, principally, I understand, in consequence of the outlay. " My yard, between Queen and High-streets, is so situated as to offer the greatest possible convenience to the public for a market; and I am williug, at my own cost, to erect there the necessary stalls — thirty in number, averaging 12 feet by 9 feet each ; to extend High-street through to Victoria-street ; and to undertake the general arrangement, supervision, and maintenance of the market for a period of five years, for the sum of £600 per anuum, to be paid to ma by the Provincial Government, in addition to any profits which I may derive from letting or leasing the stalls. " I have the honour to be, sir, your most obedient servant, "H. Hakdin gton." A plan accompanied the letter. .
