STALAGMITIC CAVE AT MANGA PAI.
To the Editor of tho Daily Southirn Cross. Sir, — In your issue of to-day appears a letter signed "A Touristy" having reference to some caves at Mangag*i. The writer speaks of "the multitude of glowing insects" found within the cave, and also of a remarkable peculiarity as to the position of their luminous power, it being placed in the head of the insect. Now, if these lines should meet his eye, will " A Tourist" do me the favour to forward me a fair specimen preserved in spirits for examination, as, to the best of my belief, no luminous insect whatever is recorded as a native of New Zealand ? The fish, also inhabiting the stream in the cave, may most probably be a new specimen, and would be well worth collecting. The insertion of this note will oblige. — Yours, &c, H. Edwards. Prince of Wales Theatre, Auckland, February 5, 1866.
