PRESBYTERY OF WELLINGTON.
Tins Court; held its half-yearly meeting in the Presbyteiiau Clnuob, Willis-street, on Monday, November 13, 1865, and was duly constituted. Present : The Rev. John Moir Moderator ; Revs. Daviu Hogg, of Wai'gamri ; James Duncan, of Manawalu and Lower Rangittkei ; Ralph J. Allsworth, of Turakina and Raugitikei ; and James dimming, of Upper Raugitikei ; aud Mc-sis W, Shaw, W. Craighead, and Alexander Williamson, Eldere. The Revs. D. Bruce, J. Hill, P. Biuclay, and J. Campbell, being present (on their way to the Assembly), were requested to take their seats iv the Presbytery and co-opeiate therewith. The Rev. Ralph J. Allsworth wa* then chosen Moder.xtor for the next twelve months. The commissions of Ihe Rev. James Cumming, of Upper Rangitikei, were laid on the table of the Presbytery aud sustained, and his name pnteied ou the roll. The lesolutions laid upon the table of the Presby. tery held at Wan<janui, in March last, disapproving of the recommendation of the General Assembly anent union with the Presbytery of Otago, having been read, The Rev. Mr. Duncan moved, "That this Presbytery, considering the state of the Presbyterian Church in this colony and the desirability of union, sustain the recommendation of the General Assembly aneut the ' Otago resolution ,' on the understanding ttat the right of appeal, iv nil cases of government aud discipline, be leserved." Whereupon the Rev. Mt. Moir moved, as an amendment thereto, "The aforesaid resolutions," but, after considerable discussion, the amendment was withdrawn, aud the motion of Mr, Duncan was agreed to. It was also agreed— "That this Presbytery, having considered the report of the committee anent the Widows and Orphans Fund, eoidially approve of the same, and recommend that the General Assembly immediately take steps to act upon it." The Rev. Mr. Cumming then proposed the fol^ving overture, which wai agreed to, "That it is humbly overturtd to the Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand to appoint a committee to apply to the Legislature at iti next session to hare our Church recognised as the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand." This overture was also agreed to; — "That it is humbly overtured to the Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand to take steps to have the proposed model deed prepared without delay, and sent down to the various Presbyteries and Sessions. " The following Commissioners were then appointed to attend the General Assembly appointed to meet at Dunedin, on or about the 21st day of the current month, viz. : — The Revi. John Moir and Jas. Cummin g, and Meisrs. W. Shaw and A. Williamson, Elders. It was then arranged that the Presbytery meet three times in the year, viz. : — At Wellington in November ; at Wanganui in February ; and at Manawatu in July. The Rev. J. Cumuino tabled the following notice — That at the next meeting of Presbytery he will move, "That the records of sessions and Deacons' Courts be presented annually for examination by this Court, according to the usage of the Church. " k.The morning'i lederunt was then closed with prayer. ' An adjourned meeting wa« held in the evening at 7 o'clock. . ' . The Rev. R. J. Allsworth, Moderator. Present : The Revs. D. Hogg, James Duncan, James Cumming, and Peter Barclay, and Meisrs. Shaw and Williamson, elders. The minutes of the former sederunt worejread and sustained, and other business transacted. The Presbytery appointed its next meeting to be held at Wanganui in the month of February, 1866, on a day to be hereafter fixed by the Moderator, and thereafter the Presbytery was closed with prayer.
