It is started simply because the progress of the Colony, the growth of its commerce, and the recent extraordinary discovery of gold, prove beyond question the necessity for the enterprise. It is worthy of notice that the shares of the recently established Bank of New Zealand, on which £5 has been paid, are now quoted at from 7| to 8 premium, the value of the share thus standing at 150 per cent, premium. The Head Office will be in London, the Head Colonial Office in Otago; with Branches in Southland, Canterbury, Nelson, Wellington and Auckland; while Agencies will be opened in due order at other places, when the discovery of gold, and the general commercial wants of New Zealand may demand.
