(FROM "POSr.") > The following additional particulars of the inhuman conduct of tho Confederate guerilla chief Quantrell, in} 1 his raid at tho village of, Lawrence (Missouri), are given* by ,the New York jgurnals: — "Themassacre of Cawupore, which so.startled the world some few years since, and introduced the terrible "tcenes of the late East lriflian war, has just * had iti connterparfc on our own soil. The massacre of Lawrence will henceforth take rank bolide it in history; and when the name of Nana Sahib aw akons feelings of hate and indignation, that of Qnantrell, the Missouri border rnfß.in, will be associated with it. Wo are as yet without tho details of this List fearful episode". The telegiaph conveys, however, » sufficient imprecsion of its honor.. The massacre took place at the noon of night, and the startled peace^d'citizeni! were seht to their last account by the bullets of murderers in the glare of their burning house*, and in the agonized embraces of their wives ■ndohildren. One hundred and eighty persons aie •aid to hnvo fallen victims. These comprise the principal citisen*, with the mayor and his son at the head of the lint, There does not appear to have been any resistance whatever offered. It was a sudden incursion of fiendish guerillas—a repetition of the scenes that used to be enacted on our borders by the savage Indians, when villages were given to the flames by some 'Monster Biant, with all his howling desolating band ' One incident is related of twelve men having been driven into a building, and there «»ln>t, and the house burned oyer them Anotjier {■ reported, where twenty-five negro recrnita weie shot dead. The bodies of the uiunleied people were thrown into wells and cisterns. Thcro was but one hotel Jet't standing, which was spared by Qnantrell, because he had been entertained there *ioine years ago without expenso, Tts pvopnietor, however, was shot. The principal pai t of the city has been reduced to ashes, the loss being set dowu roughly at 2,000,000dol."
