THE CONFEDERATE LOAN.
In the Confederate loan dining the eavly paifc of the month it was scarcely possible to effect sales at any jkice. The stock is allegod to have been offered at 40 discount, but it was not understood that any transactions toolc place below 35 discount. Tho fall in this case has been rendered more heavy by the fact that tho first success of tl»e invasion of Pennsyh ania by General Leo led to a great number of speculative purchniw, many persons feeling confident that an early mail would bring news to send the loan to a premium,, us remarkable as tho discount to which it has now"' fallen. From tho first this loan lias realised the anticipations cnteitained oh to the wide fluctuations to which the chances of tho war would subject it, and there is icason to believe that it may still experience changes of the most sudden character. Under any circumstances, unless it is to be suppoied that the South is destined to be absolutely extinguished as a nation, or oven as an influential section of the United Stales, capable of independently fulfilling at some date its promise to deliver tho cotton which was bought from it in good faith iv it-j time of difficulty, there will still be cause to cherish the trust that this comparatively small debt will *midnt all difficulties be faithfully provided for. Messrs. J. H. Scbidder and Co. have announced the Imlf-yeaily dividend due on the Ist September on this loan, — Horn* News.
