Early in the month there was some tendency to stringency in the money market, latterly however, the market has been more easy. In the Confederate loan it is almost impossible to effect sales at any price. It is now settled down to average quotations of 4 per cent, discount. Consols for money 93£ to 93J, and for account 93$ to 93 £. Exchequer Bills 1 per cent, discount to 2 premium. Colonial Government Securities : New South Wales 5 per cent, debentures, 1866, 100£ to 101£. Victorian 6 per cent., April to October, 113^ to 114. South Australian, 1878, 110 to 112. On 17th August the directors of the Bank of Australasia announced a dividend at the rate of 14 per oent. per annum. The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank declared a dividend of 6 per cent, per annum. The Board of Trade returns for June and the six months previous show an immense expansion of the export trade. The exports to Sydney and Moroton Bay amount \q £919,549 against £235,413 for problems month, decrease being £15,864. The exports to Victoria for the month, amount to £396,768 against £549,035 for the previous month, being a decrease of £152,277. The exports to Adelaide show a large increase over the previous month's of £47,748, The month's export to New Zealand has decreased by #11,473. From two vessels sailed for Melbourne, with 33,630 boxes geneva, 7,000 boxes candles, and 550 quarters oats ; and two shipi have sailed from Cadiz and Marseilles, with wiae and. salt.
