SYDNEY MARKETS. (From the Empire, July 16 .)

Flour.— The millers continue to quote £27 per ton for firsts, and £25 per ton for seconds. Sales are very small, although the dealers for the most part held but just enough for their immediate consump"tion. We note sales in small parcels at £26 10s. to £27. A small parcel of fifty tons, ex Fernan, fetched from £25 17s. 6d. to £26 per ton. We hear of sales of old barrel at 525. 6d. to 545. Grain.— The market is \ery quiet. A conside- | rable parcel of barley, ex Fernan, has been sold at 3s. 2d: per bushel, for shipment to Melbourne. Sugar.— With the exception of the sale of the parcel ex Concorde, there has been nothing doing ; but prices have a decidedly downward tendency, owing to the course the Sugar Companies pursue in lowering their prices as soon as a parcel is advertised fur sale, that is likely to compete with them. Teas. — The damaged and broken poition of the Marian Maclntyre's cargo, although in very bad condition, and being sold for cash, realised an average of about £7 10s. per chest all round. The attendance of the trade was very nnmQrous, with % brisk competition. From the general feeling evinced of an anxiety to purchase, we look upon prices as being firm, with a decided upward tendency. Tobacco. — The supplies are coming in very slowly, and dealers only buy from hand to mouth, in order to supply their immediate wants. We quote Bamtt's twist at 2s. 3d. to 2s. 4d. per pound in bond. Salt. — The market has been bought up, prices on the spot at £7 to £7 10s. per ton. For coarse Liverpool sales t» arrive have been made at £6 10s. to £6 per ton.

Stock and Station Circular. The delivery of the Salsette's mail since our last, seemed to have had the effect of suspending transactions for the present in stock and stations. In more than one instance our negotiations for station properties have come to a stand-still, owing to intending purchasers, apparently becoming paralysed by their inability to see their way through the complications of the European news. It will, perhaps, take two or three weeks before transactions resume their wonted course. Nothing is more remarkable than the different effect produced by the late news on the population of the t\\ o great coast cities of Australia. Yesterday's telegram tells us that Melbourne has allowed no business transactions to interfere with the one question of self-defence and preparation ; whereas Sydney sits calmly inactive, trusting to the historical daring of her population. Our squatting friends in the interior are, however, beyond the reach o these conflicting lines of no ■oi». The war news appears in some measure to have affected the sale of store stock, as transactions have been very limited. The information from Deniliquin has had the same tendency, store cattle being there plentiful, and purchasers for the fattening stations unwilling to buy at the prices asked. In the north we have closed for one lot at 435. on the station, equal s a xes, 2 to 7 years ; a sale has come to our notice of a mixed )ot at 80s. on the station. Store sheep are still enquired for, for sh pment and for breeding. Melbourne enquiries for overland sheep are also made ; but most of the owners have already left Sydney. Prime wethers are wof'h at Deniliquin 18s. Fat cattle, some large lots have been offered and prices reported to be higher ; but we doubt if there have been any bona fide sales, higher than last week's prices— quotations are from £4 to £6 10s. Fat sheep are worth from 13s. to 17s. according to quality.
