DIED,

At York, on the 31st January, George L. Clifford, lisq., aged 75 years, youngest son of the Honourable Thomas Clifford, late, of Tixall, in the County of Stafford, It. I. P. At Auckland, on the 28th inst., Anne La Trobe, the edorcd wife of Major Cocxbaft, 58th regiment, aged 46 years. Obittukt.— It is with sentiments of sincere and heartfelt regret, that we End ourselves under the painful necessity of recprding the premature decease ot Mrs. Cockraft, wife of Major Cockraft; of the 58th regiment, after a short illness and almost in the prime of hie. A month has hWly elapsed since she was in the active exercise of all the duties and enjoyments of life ; but,

about three weeks since, she was confined to the house, and although no immediate apprehensions appear to have been entertained, death abruptly claimed its prey, snatching the wife and the mother from the bosom ol her sorrowing family, and at the very moment when a favourable change had been hopefully anticipated. The deceased lady, who arrived with her husband and family at an early period of the New Zealand war, was long a resident of this city. It would be from the purpose to dilate upon the many estimable qualities of one who but lately occupied so prominent a position amongst us. A devoted mother, and a warm-hearted friend, her amiability of disposition, her unostentatious but active bene\olence, and womanly kindliness were best known to those best capable of estimating their genuine worth ; and by them will her memory be as fondly cherished, as her unexpected death is sincerely 1 amented . _
