Heavy Cost In Future

CANBERRA, December 12. Australia must be prepared iu future to spend many millions of pounds a year upon the defence of the country, said the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. F. M. Forde at the annual graduation ceremony today' at the Royal Military College, Duntroon. “We have to honour our. commitments as a’ Pacific Power,” he said. “It is of considerable importance that everybody should be called on to share in the common burden of the preparation of the defence of his homeland.” Forty-three cadets graduated today, including 10 New Zealanders. Mr Forde said 709 cadets had now graduated troin the college, including New Zealand cadets. The number of graduates from Duntroon prior to the outbreak of war was .|<)-—421 Australians and 74 New Zealanders.
