PAY OF POLICE
Question Of Increase Information as to what, was being done to meet the request of the Police Force for an increase in salaries to meet the increase in the cost of living was sought by Mr. Richards (Government, Roskill) in an urgent question he asked the Minister in Charge of Police Mr. p raser, in the House yesterday. Mr. Richards said it was alleged the police were litfie better off than they were 20 years ago. Mr. Fraser said that he regretted he could not give the details that would establish the fallacy of the latter part of Mr. Richard’s statement. The last action of the retiring Commissioner of Police. Mr. D. J. Cummings, was to make representations in regard to some form of increase in pay and in regard to the hours the police worked, and this was receiving lhe earnest consideration of the Government at the moment.
