N.Z. CHESS ASSOCIATION

Mr. A. T. Craven presided at a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Chess Association held in YVellington recently. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. T. G. Short (Auckland); vicepresidents, .Messrs. J. C. .McCrea (Auckland), A. J. Ratcliff (Wanganui), Puulkuinmer (Masterton). A. T. Craven (Wellington), L. J. Darwin (Canterbury), Warne Poarse'fSouth Canterbury), and W. A. Dobson (N.Z. Correspondence Chess Association), Nominations are required from tlie Hamilton. Gisborne, Nelson, Oumaru, Dunedin and Southland clubs to complete the list of vice-presidents. Mrs. Short is the. first woman to hold tlie position of president. ’The death of Mr. F. T. Yenning, who for many years rendered outstanding service to the cause of chess in Gisborne, was placed on record with regret, and a motion ot sympathy with his family was passed. Mr. C. Blackburn, 80 I’eet Street, Gisborne, is the new lion, secretary of the Gisboine Chess Club. The Gisborne and Hamilton clubs have nt different times held the Blackburn Cup, donated by him 15 years ago for competition by North Island affiliated clubs i>cated outside of Greater Auckland'and Greater YVellington. Remits suggesting that there should bo at least three or four "outside” (non-local) entries in the annual New Zealand championship tourney were defeated.
