DANGEROUS LEVEL CROSSINGS

The statement that the programme for the elimination of dangerous level crossings, begun before the war. would be proceeded with immediately the situation permitted was made by the Alinister of Railways, Air. Semple, in reply to Opposition inquiries when the Railways Department estimates were considered in the House yesterday. The Alinister said the whole of the crossings considered dangerous were surveyed wilth a view to action before the war began. About 500 were regarded as dangerous and many were made safe by over-bridges, sub-ways and new warning devices. This policy would be proceeded with at tfie earliest possible moment.
