PURCHASE BY STATE
South Auckland Colliery The purchase by the State, at a price of approximately £86,000, of the property owned by Wilton Collieries (1934) Ltd., at Glen Alassey, near Ngaruawahia, was announced yesterday by the Alinister of Mines, Air. Webb. He said that as from October 14 the Wilton Colliery would be operated as a State coal mine and would cease to be a controlled mine under the Waikato Coal Alines Controlled Emergency Regulations. The Alinister added that the company’s railway line and all the miners’ houses and other buildings were included in the purchase. He thanked the directors of the company for the assistance they had given the Alines Department with the prospecting and development of the opencast propositions on the Wilton property, and for the businesslike manner . in which the negotiations had been conducted.
