CHRISTMAS CHEER

Extra Ration For Troops “I sincerely hope that Christmas Day, 1944, will be the last spent by our soldiers. sailors and airmen under war conditions,” said the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, in announcing yesterday that, following the practice in past war years, the Government would provide an increase to the ration scale of 1/- a head to provide Christmas cheer for all ranks on Christmas Day.

“Troops serving in all overseas theatres of war and in New Zealand,” tfie Minister' added, “receive special consideration from the National Patriotic Fund Board at Christmas time. In addition to the comforts made available from that source, the increase in the ration scale enables each unit to supnlement its menus with some welcome delicacies on the most festive day of the year.”
