WORK OF PARLIAMENT
Budget Debate To Continue
This Week POSSIBILITY OF SHORT RECESS The possibility of the rapid .march of events in the European war affecting the Parliamentary session is being openly discussed in lobby circles. Though no official information is available much currency is given to a belief that the House of Representatives may adjourn toward the end of September and be called together in November. As most of the business awaiting attention is largely of a routine character and no major or contentious legislation is expected this year, it would seem that the interruption of the sitting for a month or so would be unlikely to cause any serious hold up of national affairs. Once <the Budget debate is completed the Estimates will receive consideration; A few Government Bills of a relatively minor nature and some local Bills, including the Lower Hutt City Empowering and Vesting Bill, have yet to be dealt with, and several select committees which are still deliberating, have to report to the House. There was little fresh argument contributed in the Budget debate last week. The debate, which is to be resumed tomorrow, is expected to extend over this week, with the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, probably concluding it with his reply early next week. The Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, is scheduled to speak this week.
