WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
A further women’s basketball championship ™ decided on Saturday, when Zemba ifieat Northland in the final round of the third grade, Northland is in the unenviable position of having- being second on several occasions. Zemba thoroughly deserve this ‘champ.lonship, as they are a Very good team. 'There is no one outstanding, but they have confidence in each other, and rely as a team on scoring. The second section of fourth junior is having a great time, upsetting all the results of the first round, Zemba did well early, and now cannot win games, while Bonds, who won only one game in tho first -round, has not lost a game in the second; It Is too late, however, for them to be among the leading teams. Croxley House protested about the score in their game with United, and the protest was allowed. The game is to be replayed. The result of the play-off may leave four teams equal in the section, a rather., unusual result.
Y.W.C.A. has won the club champlonBhiti, the fir_st time this club has been among the winners for many years.
W.E.O.G. senior B will win the cup for the highest goal average in the senior grades by a very small margin, and several teams are still in the running lor the junior average. In a rather uninteresting and scrappy game, T.C.O.G. beat Y.W.C.A. for runnersup in senior B. Three of the King’s Birthday tournaments were concluded this week. -Six teams entered for the senior A tournament, and a very interesting afternoon -was spent. Island Bay lost to T.-C.0.G., their only loss for the flay, while it was T.C.O.G.’s only win. St. Anne’s lost to Island Bay, and drew with Kla-ora, putting them second, one point behind. Wellington East came next, losing to Island Bay and 'St. Anne’s. In the fourth grade 29 teams entered, but of the leading teams In tho ordinary competitions only Lynx, the final winners, came even in to the semifinals.
In the third grade there were 27 entries, and Zemba again won, though by narrowmargins of one goal iu most cases. Northland did not enter. ' Following are tlic results: — King’s Birthday Tournament. —Senior A: Island (Bay S, St. Anne's 7; W.E.O.G. fl. Kla-ora 5. Third grade; Zemba. Fourth grade: Lynx. Senior 8.—T.C.0.G.
