FRENCH CIVILIANS KILLED
(Received August IS. 11.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 18. The Allied shelling killed 7500 French civilians at Caen, according to Representative Hugh Scott, Republican, Pennsylvania, who with Representative Gordon Canfield, Republican. New Jersey, worked his way across lhe Atlantic on a tanker anil met Mr. Churchill in Normandy. Mr. Scott said the French had been warned to vacate the coastal area. After the Allied barrage had killed 2500. the civilians who had tied the countryside returned to Caen and were eaught in another barrage which killed 5000 more.
