WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Heavy playing fields on Saturday affected the standard of Wellington womens hockev to such an extent that even the displays of the senior A teams were considerably affected. The star game of the dav, between College Old Girls and Technical Old Girls, developed into a “bashing” contest. There were some good individual efforts on both sides, and though College Old Girls won by a comfortable margin, thanks to the efforts of Miss D. Gray whose rushing tactics In the circle earned her three goals, Technical Old Girls put up a hard fight to the finish. Technical undoubtedly erred in the selection of ends, as the burden was against them in the testing spell trying to manoeuvr<? the ball through a sea of uiud <it the western end. Miss S. Murray, goalkeeper, brought oft* some excellent saves for College Old Girls. Others in the team to show up were Misses B. Riddell, at left-half; E. Mclndoe, J. Yeatman, and Mcsdames G. Cowan and I. Lamason. Pro-» ininent players for Technical were Mrs. P. Handley, goalkeeper: M. Rutherford, right full-back; D. DeCent, right-half; and J. Tempest, left-wing. Hutt United managed to only six players in the game against Varsity (10 plavers), tho students winning comfortably. Miss M. Baker, Varsity, showed her qualities as one of the best goalin the grade. Others to play well were Misses M. Marwick and D. Filrncr. Tor United. Miss B. Strang and Mrs. M. Love played well. Petone T.O.G. defeated Base Camp at Woburn.
