RUSSIANS AND JEWS BLAMED

Broadcast By Dr. Ley (Received July 23, 8 p.m.) LONDON, July 22. A bomb of the heaviest type, imported from Britain, was used in the attempt to kill Hitler, said the Labour Front leader, Dr. Ley. broadcasting from an armament works. He said : “Stalin arm-in-arm with the German countsI—there 1 —there you see .where Bolshevism will lead you. How did the Fuehrer treat the counts? He gave them back their rights and their uniforms. This is the thanks he gets. We demand that these creatures be wiped out. Count Stauffenberg’s wife was born, in Poland and his sister-in-law in Russia. “Bolshevist Moscow and the Jews ordered the bomb from Britain. German counts and Aryans—those blue-blooded swine—planted it beside the Fuehrer, fools, idiots, criminals, murderers, reactionaries that they are. While German workers labour 12 to 16 hours a day., all the week and without holidays, the idiotic nobility has nothing better to do than to plot against our Fuehrer. The fact that the Fuehrer was saved does not mean a battle won. It means the war won.” Berlin radio said that Dr. Ley at the conclusion of his speech received unprecedented applause from the workers, who saluted the Fuehrer. Series of Denials. Berlin radio’s . political director, Fritzsche, tonight broadcast a series of denials of enemy reports concerning “this putsch and attempt on the Fuehrer's life.” He said it might be argued.that the German statement that the conspiracy was only minor seemed to be refuted by the scope of the precautionary measures, but was it not. an obvious step to nip in the bud all likelihood of the incident assuming major proportions? They at the time had to be prepared for anything and everything. “It is senseless to discuss the purpose of this criminal plot. It has failed and the future will reveal its purpose,” he saitj. Fritzsche quoted foreign reports that thousands of officershad been arrested iu street fighting. “The devil alone knows where.” and proceeded to warn the German people against listening to foreign broadcasts. “We stick to what wc have said,” he added. “The whole situation was cleared up six.hours' after the attempted putsch. Not a drop, of blood was shed, except that of the traitors. No special or violent measures had to be adopted. This band of conspirators was ambitious and self-seeking. The plot, was obviously laid w-ith thoroughness and prepared over a long period. We have overcome this incident and are now richer for the lessons it has taught us. The German people can go back to their daily labour.” The German Propaganda Ministry today promised to nublish a detailed account of the plot against Hitler, giving the list of officers involved, “after more precise police investigations.” says the Associated Press of Great Britain, quoting Berlin radio, which added that the foreign versions of what was happening in Germany were causing great amusement in Berlin. Berlin 'overseas radio stated that numbers of important documents have been discovered in the homes of the rebel generals. In the short snacc of time which elapsed between the attempt on Hitler’s life nnd the oxcution of Count von Stauffenberg, the latter was cross-examined and confessed certain important facts which will be published shortly, together with the documents, the radio added.
