CATHOLIC SCHOOLS’ SOCIAL

The highlight of the annual Catholic schools’ social at the Town Hall last night, conducted under the auspices of the Wellington Catholic Education Trust Board, was a series of popular war Period songs by the boys’ choirs of the Tasman Street and Thorndon Marist Brothers’ schools under Brother Andrew and Brother Henrick respectively. Examples were "Coining In On a Wing and a Prayer,” "This is Worth Fighting For," “When the Lights Gome On Again.” Those evergreen favourites "Rio Grande” and "Shenandoah” were also well received. Mrs. G. P. Aldridge playbd organ and piano accompaniments. Miss Joyce Colshe (songs), Mr. J. Davidson (pianoaccordion). Master Jackson (tap dance), aud the Tasman Street school mouth organ band completed the programme, the last-named being specially popular. After the concert parents aud friends hud a social entertainment, with dancing. The alluvial gold art union prizes were drawn, and resulted :—Mr. C. Walsh, Salisbury Street, 1; Mr. Kalaugher, Fordell, 2; Mr. J. Bryon, Bridge Street, 3; Mrs. Barnes, Arlington Street. 4. The gathering was well-attended.
