Flax And Fertilizers

Sir, —The flax industry has been ruined in New Zealand through want of proper supervision. The fertilizer industry is in the process of being ruined in the same manner. The only difference is that the flax industry has already been crucified as the raw material has disappeared, but in the case of fertilizers there are millions and millions of tons of available raw material awaiting treatment. The question is: How long are the public of New Zealand going to put up with this serious brake on our primary industries and the destruction of our national wealth? The whole of the Dominion’s economic fabric is based on our export of primary products, and when these are reduced everyone suffers. —I am, etc., W. STUART WILSON. Wellington. June 19.
