DECLARED VALID

Australian Security Regulations

(Received June 8. 11.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE. June 8.

The National Security Regulations empowering the manpower authorities to direct people to work with private firms have been unanimously declared valid by the Australian Full High Court. The High Court upheld an appeal by the Com mon wealth against the judgment of the New South Wales Supreme Court that these regulations were invalid.

The High Court judges pointed out, however, that, such far-reaching power was capable of great abuse and that there was an obligation on the authorities to exercise it sensibly.
