Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, June 1. Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Newall. attended by Major H. A. Jnffruv and Flight Lieutenant H. A. Eaton, returned to Wellington from Auckland this morning. . Later, at Government House, Ins Excelleucy handed to Mrs. B. B.- Ia McGregor the Air Force Cross which was awarded to her late husband, kejua dr on Leader R. B. L. McGregor. R-VZ.A.I. Admiral W. F. Halsey (Jun.), U.fe.N., accompanied by Brigadier-General M . A. Durans, U.S.A., Commander C. Weeks, U.S.N., and Lieutenant W. J. Kitcliell, IJ.S.N., has arrived at Government House. Mr. E. R. MeKillop, Wellington, has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Works. Dr. W. R. B. Oliver and Mr. B. C. Aston have been appointed members of the council of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Mr Justice Finlay, president of the Land Sales Court, has been appointed to sit as a judge of the Compensation Court. Messrs 11. M. Christie (Wellington), C. L. Grange (Auckland), J. W. Heenan (Wellington), and E. Hitchcock (Christchurch) have been appointed members ot the Local Government Loans Board. Mr. L. N. Cording was recently appointed to a seat on the Dominion executive committee of the New Zealand \\ nr Amputees’ Association as a co-opted member representing the Second N.Z.E.F. Mr. Cording left New Zealand with the second echelon in 1940 and saw service in North Africa, where lie was wounded. He was commissioned in the field, and since his return lias taken up a business position as account ant-secretary.
