Y.M.C.A. BOYS’ HOLIDAY PROGRAMME
During the term holidays just ended, a total of 1200 attendances was recorded at the Wellington Y.M.C.A. when a varied programme was presented for boys of 10 years of age and over. A visit to the-Hutt Workshops was made by one party of 170 who were shown over the shops by instructors in the many branches of engineering practice operated in these buildings. Visits to the municipal milk department and a bakery followed, and later a newspaper office and the fire brigade were inspected by a large group of boys. Maidstone Park was visited by 240 boys, who spent a day in games and recreation, and a visit to a poultry farm. Plimnterton beach saw a large number of boys and their parents on an all-day family outing. A tramp to Boulder Hill provided an excellent opportunity for useful instruction in the use of compass and maps.
The remainder of the programme included indoor frames and competitions among seven suburban groups, borne service missions, and a “family night” at the end of the holidays, when 300 boys, girls and their parents filled the boys’ department to capacity for a concert programme and items by some of the boys.
