Formation In Dominion
An Anglo-Danish Society has been formed for the purpose of bringing together people of Danish descent throughout New Zealand. The aims of (he society are to assist in every way possible the war effort of the Allied nations —for it is certain that the liberation of Denmark and its independence will be achieved through an Allied victory; to assist in every way iiossible Danish people of all classes who after the war may wish to make their homes in New Zealand, and to help those already here; and to create good fellowship among the members of the society and loyalty to their adopted country. The national headquarters of the society are established in Wellington, with Mr. Johannes C. Andersen, as national president, and- the following members of tbe executive committee:—Mr. O. Monrad, president; Mr. C. G. Petersen, vicepresident; Mr. N. P. Nielsen, secretary, Palmerston North Branch; Mrs. P. Hammer, Mr. A. C. Jensen, Wellington, and Mr. F. Toft, national secretary. Mr. V. Jensen, the oldest Danish resident in Wellington, is patron of the society. The society has started with a strong membership and two branches are already functioning, one in Wellington and the other at Palmerston North, and a third fs about to be launched in the Hawke's Bay district with Dannevirke as its centre. Membership of the society ijs open, to all persons of 18 years and over who were born in Denmark, their husbands, wives and children, and to all others who claim Danish forebears.
