MIGHT PROVE COSTLY

Beach-heads In China WASHINGTON, February 22. Remarking that Admiral Nimitz favours attacks against the China coast, Colonel Frank Knox, -Secretary of the Navy, said: “We are learning in Italy that beach-heads are no joke. They may prove pretty costly in China.” Colonel Knox compared the Japanese strategy with that of the RussoJapanese war, which began with a Japanese sneak attack on Port Arthur similar to the Pearl Haribour raid, after which the Japanese waited till the Russian Fleet had extended itself far from its bases and then launched a successful allout attack. “However,” said Colonel Knox, “the American Fleet will not meet the Russians’ fate.”
