LAG IN COUNTY RATE COLLECTION

The clerk of the Hutt County Council. Air H. R. Robinsou, reported to the council yesterday that the rates struck for the year amounted to £3l 91b, of which £24,549 had been paid. Alaher said the nearby farmers who wore supplying milk to the AAellington City Council’s Milk Deplrtment, received 91<i. a gallon for their mill;, which the department was retailing at 2Sd. a gallon. The Wellington farmers bad received no increase in the price of milk, while all other dairyfarmers throughout New Zealand had been granted a 10 per cent increase. To show how farmers were up against it, it was only necessary to state that No. 8 fencing wire, winch before the war could be purchased for £l9 a ton, today cost £45 a ton.
