Handsome Gift Toward Soldiers’ Club
A cheque for £5OOO on behalf of the Anzae Division of the British AV ar Relief Society New York, has 'been received by the National Patriotic Fund Board ,to assist in meeting the cost of establishing club premises in New Caledonia for the New Zealand troops. ■ This further gesture of goodwill toward the New Zealand forces by American Anzaes and their supporters follows the announcement made earlier this week of other substantial gifts 'by the Anzae Division. .... , , Members of the Patriotic Board Committee. when they met last week, expressed appreciation of. the splendid assistance given over a considerable period by the Anzae Division in supplementing New Zealand’s patriotic effort, particularly in the direction of supplying goods that otherwise would be difficult to procure. A letter of thanks is to be sent to the Anzae Division. A letter will also be sent to Sir Robert Appleby, of the British War Relief Society. U.S.A., and this will ask him, the society, and its subscribers in the United States to accept the board's sincere appreciation of their wonderful assistance in forwarding gifts of material assistance to the board to help provide a little cheer for the New Zealand service personnel. The main purpose of the club house at New Caledonia is to provide a leave centre for New Zealanders from all parts of the island. Its amenities will include a large recreation hall, canteen, hairdressing saloon, sun porches, reading and writing rooms, and a restaurant.
