Democratic Labour Candidates The following Democratic Labour candidates in the general election have been announced: — Dunedin South.—Aircraftman G. 11. Claridge, aged 30. Educated at Otago Boys’ High School, he is a director of several companies, and is keenly interested in the development of New Zealand industry. He is a prominent bowler and has also been a member .of the Dunedin Repertory Society. He is married with two children. Dunedin, Central. —Mr; A. J. Peat. He was born in Dunedin, went overseas with the First Echelon and was invalided home several months ago. He has .served on several school committees and is also a well-known Rugby player and referee. He is a member of the Dunedin committee of the Public Service Association. Oamaru. —.Mr. George Barclay, Waimate He is a member of a wellknown pioneering family of Banks Peninsula, anfl brother of. the Minister of Marketing and Agriculture. He has been farming all. his life, for the past 23 years at Waimate. A staunch supporter of the Labour Party for many years he resigned by way of protest on the ground that the party failed to keep its election pledges. There are now four candidates in the field for Oamaru, the other three being Air. Nordnieyer, the'sitting Labour member, Air. G. P. Cuttriss, a well-known business man, standing as an Independent, and sponsored by the People’s Movement, and Sergeant T. IL Bcatts, nominated by the National Party, LABOUR CANDIDATES The national "executive of the Labour Party has endorsed the candidature of the three sitting members, Messrs. F. Jones, J. W. Munro, ami P. Neilson, for Dunedin South, Dunedin North, and Dunedin Central, and that, of LieutenantCommander P. G. Connolly for Dunedin West.
WELLINGTON CENTRAL
The Prime Minister. Mr. Fraser, Labour candidate for Wellington Central, addressed a largely attended meeting of friends and supporters in tbe Roseneath Presbyterian Hall last night. Mr. Fraser dealt with Labour's war policy, domestic legislation and rehabilitation measures and was accorded u vote of thanks and confidence.
Frieqds and supporters of Mr. C. G. Scrimgeour are, invited to a meeting at the Methodist Hall, Webb Street, tonight. -Mrs. Scrimgeour will represent her husband, who is unable to be present •due to military regulations.
WELLINGTON NORTH
Mr. A. H. Carman, the Independent (non-party) candidate lor Wellington North, held his initial meeting at. St. Andrew’s Hall, Th e Terrace, last night. He addressed the meeting and at lhe conclusion a resolution was adopted expressing thanks to and confidence in him. Offers of campaign assistance were received.
COMING MEETINGS
Mrs. C. 'Stewart. M.P.. Labour candidate for Wellington West, will address friends and supporters in the Karorl West school tonight. Mr. J. Hogan, Independent candidate for Hutt, will address meetings at Itandwiek School tonight and in the L’nion Clothing Co. Hall, Petone, tomorrow night. Mr. W. Bishop. Democratic Labour candidate for Wellington Lust, wilt speak at Eve’s grocery tearooms, Melrose, tonight.
