Dance For New Zealanders The United States Navy personnel entertained officers and men of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary I’orce ture lough contingent tit a dance in the Aucb. land Town Hall. Mustc was supphed by the 20-piece naval band ot Chicr -LeUy Officer Artie Shaw, well known American band leader mid clarinet p ayer. Almost 700 New Zealand men witn their purl tiers were present, as well as .100 members of lhe United States NdU-Lieutenant-Colonel G. J. O. , bl « w “ rt > accepted the invitation ou behalf ot bis officers and men. was the chief goes., i Maori girl, singer, accompanied bv tue baud, sang the Maori farewell song during the evening. The dance, which w’as held bv the Americans ns.a gesture of reeo l ;- intion of the services of the men of the 2ud N.Z.E.F., was aprectated by the guests. It was the first occasion on which a leading overseas dance baud bad appeared in the Dominion.
