SPANISH TRIBUTE TO BRITISH
(Received August 8, 7.30 p.m.) MADRID, August. 7. A remarkable tribute to the British Empire is paid by the newspaper “Ya’s” London correspondent. “In the midst of political mid .social disintegration the British Empire’s unity, harmony and solidarity is one of the few reassuring and comforting sights to which we can turn without a feeling of giddiness. ’1 he British Empire is actuated exclusively by an idea of individual freedom and respect for humanity, and sets an example aud constitutes a hope as well as a guarantee that no disorder, barbarism or tyrrany shall master the world. Nowhere in the British Empire, with the exception of the United Kingdom, is there conscription. Thus today millions of Cana dians, Africans. Australians, New Zealanders, Indians and Jews are fighting and dying as volunteers.”
