FIRE DAMAGE IN FAR NORTH

(By Telegraph.— Press Association.) WHANGAREI, February 3. Bush and scrub fires are raging in many parts of Northland. The most extensive is that in the Karetn State forest and adjoining lands, about ten miles from Kawakawa, in the Bay of Islands county. Soldiers, Maoris, forestry officials, and local settlers have been fighting the fires since Monday. Fires threatened several dwellings in the Puhipuhi district. Special precautions were taken at the Puhipuhi Mines, less than half a mile from, one affected area. Tn the Oponteke Valley, Mangnkahia. Mr. J. Clark lost a woolshed containing this season's clip.
