Denying Axis propaganda that Mr. Churchill went to Turkey without giving the Turks time to object, the British Ambassador, Sir Hughes Knatehbull-Huges-sen at a Press cotiferenee, said that - Mr. Uhureliill requested a meeting oulsids Turkey with President lllonu or members of the Turkish Government, and Turkey replied wit.li a cordial invitation to hold the meeting on Turkish soil, at Ankara or anywhere else. An Axis allegation that Mr. Churchill asked the Turks to enter the war and that Turkey refused was nonsense, lie said. Turkey remained as free after the Adana conference as before. Russian representatives were not present. because the conversations particularly concerned the delivery _of armaments to Turkey, in which Britain and America were most directly concerned.
