State Theatre.—The two new pictures nt the State Theatre are ‘A Desperate Chance for Ellery Queen ’ and bweetheart'of Ike Fleet.” Tim fornrnr is another murder nivsterv picture. Ellery Queen, acted W lliam Gargan, solves the murder as usual and mines out with one more mys cry o his credit The associate picture, “Sweetlo'.rt of the Fleet." is the story of two girls who are loved by (he admiral down i , the lowest deck-si rubber, the stars are Jmm Davis, Jinx Ealkenburg and Joan Woodbury.
OiH-ru House. —Errol Flynn Is the doctor of “Dive Bomber.” now at the. Opera House. He puts wrinkles on .Is ba“‘“ brow wondering liow Io prevent pilots gelling "blaek-otils” during power dives. Fred Moe-Murray Is the squadron leader who seems never to have heard that old saw about an officer aud n gentleiu.m. There is a fair amount of tragedy iu ‘ Dive Bomber,” which is produced in techmcolour, but there are thrills as well, and a blonde bomber provides the love interest.
Majestic Theatre. —Now in its last ten (lavs, "Mrs. .Miniver has attracted foil houses at the Majestic theatre, •IS it deserves. It has moments ot great patlms aud moments of great joy, and the audience, through it. can gain sonm of Um spirit tn which the Battle of Britain was fought. As such it is one of the best senii-doeinnentary tllnis the wan has produced. The next attraction wilt be William Powell. Hedy Lamarr in "Crossroads.”
King’s Theatre.—Those with a taste for adventure spiced with plenty of roinance will tind “Sou of Fury,” now at the Kings Theatre, well to their liking. The stars ar ( » Tyrone Power and George banders, the former Inking the part of Ben Blake, who lines from tyranny as represented by the suave George Sanders, makes his fortune overseas on a tropic! isle, aud returns to claim IDs revenge aud his rights. The background of caddy England is well revived.
St. James Theatre. —In its second week “.M,y Favourite Blonde,” at the St. Janies continues to draw big crowds. Bob Hope, the United States No. .1 comedian of the day, is starred with Madeleine Carroll, and the storv is one long gale of laughter, as Bob travels 3000 miles with the inrendiary Madeleine. There is a saying: “It’s Jy 0 ® work if you can get enough ot it.' YVeU Bob gets a little 100 much, /nile boudergaard and George Zucco assist.
Plaza Theatre. —A drama of the upper crust of the underworld. “A Gentlemao After Hark,” now at the Plaza Theatre, is a thrilling story of a Jewel thief who is not as polished in his morals ns he Is in his ajipcarance. Brian Dunlevy plays the part of the crook, familiarly known as Ihdlotrope Harry. Miriam Hopkins and Prcslon Foster are two others prominent in the east. The plot contains many elements of surprise.
Tudor Theatre. — Charlie Chaplin, the pathetic little figure, the symbol ot the masse« who laugh a little and tight and die with wishes ungranted, the man who.
