CHILDREN RESCUED
Boy Scouts’ Timely Action Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, January 13. A remarkable escape from what might, have been a double drowning was experienced on Monday in the Wbakaiane River, when Margaret and Natalie .Benson, the infant daughters of Mr. and Mrs. B. Benson, (loulstone lioad, were rescued in a semi-conscious condition by three high sebool boys, who nol iced Ihe children as they were being slowly swept away by I lie current.
The boys who accomplished the rescue were Kelvin ami .John Crozier, ami Leslie Goodall, all of Whakataue. Having finished their swim in the river, the lads were proceeding to dress when they noticed the two girls drifting by under the water. For a moment they though I them to be. Maori children swimming, but when they failed to come to the surface the boys lost no lime in effecting a rescue.
Brought safely to the bank, resuscitation was applied and one child quickly regained consciousness. The other child, however, was in a bad plight and resuscitation efforts had to be eonlinmai for a considerable time before she finally regainert consciousness.
