N.Z. Armoured Fighting Vehicles School. The following appointments and promotions of officers on active service with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. overseas were also gazetted:— N.Z. Artillery. Captain S. H. Dawe, to be major. ■Major .1. F. R. Sprosen, to be .lieut.colonel (temp.), while commanding a field regiment. . The undermentioned captains to oe majors (temp.) while commanding batteries: —D. J. Robertson, O. G. Wiles, H. T. W. Nolan, R. G. Drummond. N.Z. Medical Corps. Major G. R. Kirk to be lieut.-colonel. Captain (temp, major) W. M. Brown, to be major. N.Z. Engineers. Major J. N. Anderson to be lieut.colonel (temp.), while employed as commander of engineers of a N.Z. DiviCaptain (acting major) K. Rix-Trott, to be major (temp.), while commanding N.Z. Engineer and Ordnance Training Depot. Lieut, (temp, captain) C. F. Skinner, to be major (temp.), while commanding a Held company. N.Z. Infantry. Captain K. A. Keiha, Maori Battalion, to be major (temp.), while commanding a company. Captain S. IV. Josland, Central Infantry, to be major (temp.). Major G. A. McFarlane, who has been appointed to the position of Assistant Director at Headquarters of Army Education and Welfare Service, holds the bachelor of commerce degree and obtained the diploma in public administration at Victoria University College. He was a member of the first group of public servants to be awarded scholarships in public administration. Before his mobilization he occupied' the position of investigating and research officer, General Post Office.
Major W. E. Alexander, who has been appointed Assistant Director, Army Education and Welfare Service, Northern Military District, has the B.A. degree (N.Z. University). Before war broke out he was head of the English department, New ’Plymouth Boys’ High School. Major Alexander has an outstanding athletic record, being a representative footballer and cricketer as well as a champion rifle shot. He left New Zealand in 1940, was wounded on active service in 1941, and returned to New Zealand in February, 1942.
Major R. D. Cox, who has been appointed Assistant Director of Army Education and Welfare Service, Southern Military District, holds B.A. and B.Com. degrees, A.R.A.N.Z., and diploma of education. Major Cox has had both primary and secondary teaching experience throughout the South Island. H-a has had long experience in military matters, being first commissioned in 1922. His first regiment was the Southland Regiment, and he later served with the Canterbury Regiment and then the Nelson-Marlbor-ough Mounted Rifles. He later -passed through the Staff College, and up to the time of his present appointment was a brigade major in a Souih Island brigade. Captain zL G. W. Dunningham, who has teen appointed Staff Officer Library, is a 8.A., and in 1932 was awarded a travelling scholarship in librarianship, and pursued his studies in Great Britain and the United States of America. Before his mobilization he occupied the position of chief librarian, Dunedin Public Liorary. Captain Armour, who is weh-known tn Christchurch football, boxing and debating circles, left New Zealand for overseas service in December, 1949. He served in the Libyan campaign, and was invalided home last October. In 1938 he stood as National candidate for Christchurch East. For a number of seasons he was captain of the Linwood senior Rugby team. Lieutenant 11. E. Brusey, N.Z. Temporary Staff, was -before mobilization on the staff of the Union Steam Ship Company of N.Z., Ltd. From 1934 to 193 S he was cruise director on all the Union S.S. Company’s winter cruises to the Pacific Islands, and from Sydney to New Zealand. Lieutenant Brusey has taken a prominent pact in the musical life of \\ cllington as pianist and conductor. He was deputy-conductor of the Royal Wellington Choral Union and the Schola Cttntorum. and conductor of the Hutt Valley Liedcrtafel. He was lor some years organist and choirmaster at The Terrace Congregational Cliurc-h, and later choirnuister at St. James’ Church ot. England, Lower Hutt. Lieutenant Brusey has been appointed Staff Officer Welfare. Captain C. 'l'. Harris. N.Z.T.S., who has been appointed .Staff Officer Films, holds a double M.A. and the diplomas in education, social science and journalism. Before mobilization he was major commanding a -battalion of the Auckland regiment. He was formerly secretary of the Auckland Visual Education Association.
