British Plan To Beat Enemy In Jungle (Received January 14, 7 p.m.) LONDON, January 13. Burmese guerrillas silently traversing forest trails and penetrating the jungles are testing the Japanese strength, says the British United Press correspondent with the British forces in Burma. Some have advanced as far as the Cliindwin River, which the Japanese are using as a supply route for their forces in Hie most northerly part of tlie country.

The guerrillas work like the Chittese. Russian and Yugoslav irregulars, with tough Red Indian methods. They include many front India and Burma and the border bill tribes. They mni'clied scores of miles to volunteer because the Japanese tore down their villages and molested their people. The British give them a gun and 31)/- a month as pay and organize small groups ami send them back to Japan-ese-held territory where parlies of half a dozen live on lhe country and sleep when and where I bey can. Thus, when the big push comes, ollicers and men who are now learning the ways of lite jungle, will have many o! the tribal peoples on their side and will be able to count on effective help from the Khanitis in the I’atkai Naga hills in the extreme north, through lhe Chin hills to the Litshai in the Arakan hills in rhe south. The British ate preparing all along the border to beat the Japanese at their own game of .jungle warfare.
