COMMERCIAL USE OF CABLE SERVICE
Reduction Held Desirable
An appeal to commercial houses to avoid unnecessary use of the cable .services is contained iii a letter received bv the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand from the Navy Office, Wellington. The letter points out that the loss bf certain important cable stations in the Far East and increased ofiiciai correspondence involved a very heavy strain on remaining facilities. The Associated Chambers, in compliance with the request have circularized the constituent bodies passing on the letter for notification to their individual members. The Navy Office’s letter says it is appreciated that most business firms already realize the position and have taken steps in the desired direction, but a few have not yet realized the dangerous congestion caused by the unnecessary, use of naval telegraphic facilities. It is asked that tach sender should think well whether the message is absolutely necessary before sending it, and if possible use the mails instead. Telegrams, the letter states, should not be used unless the information is most important and urgently required bv the recipient. The Navy Office realizes the many dilhculties which face the business community today, but makes the request because the need for economy in cabling is urgent.
