Strong police guards twice fought and repulsed several hundred citizens who strove to join the funeral cortege of ex-President Ortiz, reports the Buenos Aires correspondent of the Associated Press of America. Thousands braved the rainstorm to make a fervent demonstration for democracy. The first clash occurred in front of Buenos Aires Cathedral when 500 people surged forward with the evident Intention of joining the procession in honour of the man whose death has removed one of the hopes of democracy in Argentina. The police repelled them and the procession moved on with tile crowd following, shouting: "Ortiz, viva democracia.” Halfway to the cemetery, mounted police checked a large crowd, of demonstrators.
