News And Notes e Young People’s Dance. . Many young people eagerly anticipate tlie dances which are held periodically in the Phyllis Bates ballroom, Wellington, which is now on tlie first floor of Hannah’s Building, 262 Lambton Quay, lhe dance to be held next Friday should prove more iwpulnr than ever. Invitations are now being issued- and because ot tlie blackout and lack of petrol the dance will begin at 7.15 and finish at IT.lu. Third Anniversary. A record number ot members and friends attended the third anniversary ot the formation of the Karori lownswomen's Guild, Dominion I' ederatiou. The Karori lyric singers, under the leadership' of Mrs. Cable, presented an enjoyable programme, and Mrs. W. B. Veitch gave elocutionary items. The war work circle continues to grow and n large quantity of essential equipment for emergency purposes lias been completed.
Coin Afternoon. . Spring Howers were arranged in inc reception rooms of Mrs. C. S. Kastwood s residence for the occasion of a coin afternoon given recently in aid of the Residential Nursery by the Wadestown branch of the Women’s National Reserve. Solos and duets were sung by Mesilanws W. Duncan, Eastwood, amt Chapman, accompanied by Mrs. J. H. Michelson, who also played pianoforte solos. A special appeal was made for donations toward the W.N.K. unaddressed parcel fund for overseas Christmas gifts, and there was a generous response by members present. Mrt?. . Eastwood was thanked for her hospitality by Mrs Otway, president.
Otic of tile most charming hand-made hats is a turban composed of rows of narrow grosgaiu ribbon rucked into shcll-like shapes in a beautiful soft mulberry shade. Another smart hat is of navy felt in a beautiful Quality with a hand-plaited brim turned up at the back and swathed with navy veiling tied in a big bow. ■ News of the week at Robin and Co., T 7 Grey Street, is an exquisite Sevres teaset on a tray. The design on each piece is divided into four semioiis, two white framed in gold traceries and decorated with figures against a rural background. The alternate panels are Sevres pink with flower studies. Eacli Hower and figure is different and delicately painted in lovely colours. The pieces arc small, two cups aud saucers, a square-sided teapot, sugar basin and cream jug, the latter three all fitted with lids.—Advt
