ARMY LORRY DRIVER FINED
Advancing as excuse lor the offence that his running instructilons fixed 30 miles an hour as his speed, John Leet, Army transport driver, pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court. Wellington, yesterday to operating a heavy Army lorry on the I hit t Road at more than the permitted speed of 25 miles an hour. He was fined £l/10/- by Mr. Stout, S.M.. who said that because he was in the Army did not. say he ould exceed the speed limit. , , . An inspector had found the lorry doing 45 miles an hour, said Mr. A. R. Cooper, who prosecuted tor the \\ ellington City Council. Leef, when stopped, said he had been doing 35. He gave as explanation the fact he was tn the Army and asked the inspector why he did not try it.
